Law Day 2010
According to the official 2010 Proclamation, Law Day was established by President Eisenhower in 1958 as “a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law.” The official observance is on May 1st, though many events are held on or around this date. This year’s theme is, Law in the 21st Century: Enduring Traditions and Emerging Challenges. This theme is meant to foster recognition and discussion about our laws and the new challenges that have emerged in this global era. In the official proclamation, President Barack Obama said, “On this Law Day, I encourage all Americans to reflect upon and renew our commitment to our legal traditions. By fostering an open dialogue about law’s role in the 21st century, we help ensure that all people understand, remain dedicated to, and are protected by the principles of government under law. “ As schools and communities across the nation take the time to recognize the importance of our laws, what a great opportunity it is to share about the importance of having affordable access to legal counsel so a person can understand his/her rights whenever a legal issue is encountered.
