Arrest Made In Brooklyn Double Homicide

Police made an arrest Monday in connection with the deaths of a young Brooklyn mother and her daughter. Amahal Lynch, 20, of East New York is charged with two counts of murder. Police found the bodies of 29-year-old Shakeema Elliot and 8-year-old Kaliya Williams in a Sheepshead Bay apartment Sunday morning. Investigators say Lynch was a maintenance worker at the complex. They also say he and Elliot knew each other, but it's not clear exactly what relationship they had. Family members held a vigil Monday night outside the Brooklyn apartment complex where they called for justice. "Whatever the law prescribes for him whatever he's charged with and whatever maximum time he gets that's what I want for him," said the victims' aunt, Delores Smith Johnson. "There ain't nothing bad you can say about Shakeema. I never knew her to be in any fights or have a problem with anybody whoever did this was wrong," said another relative. Officials say Elliot and Williams were found naked in a bathtub half filled with water. The medical examiner says they had been strangled. If convicted, Lynch could face a life sentence in prison.
