Police Investigate Sexual Assault At Manhattan Library

Police are looking for a man who is suspected of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl inside a Manhattan library last Thursday. It happened around 5 p.m. inside the Seward Park Library Branch on East Broadway in Chinatown. Police say the man approached the young girl and allegedly covered her mouth and sexually assaulted her. Library officials say there was a security guard on duty, but he did not see anything. They also say the branch manager called 911 immediately after being notified. Library visitors who spoke with NY1 say news of the attack has put them on edge. "I'm a mother. I mean I have a grown daughter, but I would feel horrible if that happened to my child. It's terrible it's terrible. It's not something that you would expect to happen in a public library," said one library user. Police say the man is in his mid 40s, between 5' 9" and 6' 0" tall, medium build with short black and gray hair. Police say he was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and a gray colored hat. He was also carrying a black bag.
