2. Member contacted our office regarding a consumer matter. Member advised that she thought she won a cruise, but an agency contacted her and charged member $300.00. 3. Member contacted our office regarding her mother?s rent stabilized apartment and her tenancy at the apartment in Manhattan. Member advised that her mother passed away in July, 2009, but member paid her rent until September, 2009. Member advised that the landlord returned her rent for September stating that member is not the tenant. Member felt she has succession rights to the apartment since she did reside with her mother for a period of time before she passed away, and has all proof showing her residency in the apartment. Our office wrote letters on member?s behalf and was able to obtain the right of succession on behalf of member in the rent stabilized apartment.
4. Member contacted our office regarding a bank/consumer matter. Member advised that he just discovered that a company was taking money out of his account since 2005 without his authorization. Member claims he had no idea this was going on and never authorized this monthly withdrawal. Our office wrote letters on member?s behalf and was able to obtain a full refund of $465.40.
5. Member contacted our office regarding a problem he was having with a vehicle that he purchased. Member advised that he purchased a 1998 Nissan vehicle from a dealership and had nothing but problems with the vehicle.
6. Member advised that despite his having purchased a warranty for 24 months or 24000 miles, he has had numerous, serious problems with the mechanical operation of the vehicle and was being told none of the repairs were covered by the warranty sold to him. In addition, there had been an unwarranted and extended time for him to obtain the permanent registration of the vehicle, which caused member unnecessary stress and loss of time. It appeared that there were also misrepresentations made to member at the time of purchase. He was told he was only the second owner of the vehicle when, in fact, he was the third. He was also told the vehicle had not been in any collisions although there was one. The car was said to have been inspected by the dealership before the sale but some of the items needing repair were those that are required to have been completed for an inspection to be in accordance with the state law. Our office wrote a letter on member?s behalf stating all of these facts and was able to obtain a much newer vehicle (a 2009 Mitsubishi Gallant) with a loan which was extremely satisfactory to member; and they paid off member?s old car loan. Member was very appreciative for our assistance.
7. Member contacted our office regarding a notice she received addressed to her deceased husband regarding unpaid income taxes for the year 1994. Member advised that her husband died in 2003, had no assets, will or Executor. It appeared that member?s husband filed married separately. Our attorney advised member that under these circumstances, the debt is the deceased husband?s and she should have no liability. Our attorney advised member how to proceed with matter, and due to his advice, member was advised that she did not have to pay the debt ? saving member $801.00.
8. Member contacted our office regarding a hotel he booked through a website. Member advised that the room was to have certain amenities, such as a patio; however, when he arrived, it did not. Our office wrote to the website company and was able to obtain a full refund of $213.16.

Our office wrote a letter to the company on member?s behalf and was able to obtain a full refund of $89.90.
